Rock to Sign River of Tears at Bluebird Books

Rock Neelly, a Hutchinson native and Buhler High School graduate, now professor of literature in Cincinnati, Ohio, will return to Hutchinson for a book signing of his new novel. The signing will take place from 9:30 a.m. to noon Saturday, Oct. 12, at Bluebirds Books, 2 S. Main St., Hutchinson.

The book is the first with his new publisher, Praus Press. The tale is a tense police procedural featuring new characters for the writer — in this case, two female detectives.

In the novel “River of Tears,” a young black girl disappears from Cincinnati’s West End. There are no witnesses and no leads. Two days later, a white girl the same age is snatched from Hyde Park Square, a swanky area of the city. Cincinnati’s mayor receives a letter brutally stating: “Find the black girl and we’ll return the white girl.”

Neelly is the author of several books, including “The Purple Heart Detective Agency” and “The Prince of the Border.”

Neelly is the son of Al and Peggy Neelly of Hutchinson. He attended Hutchinson Community College, Fort Hays State University, the University of Denver and the University of Cincinnati. He teaches film and literature at Gateway Community and Technical College in the greater Cincinnati area.
